Christmas in the Dolomites

One of the most eagerly awaited times of the year is definitely the period of the Christmas market. For young and old alike, the Christmas market is an event not to be missed.

The mountains begin to glow amidst a joyful festive atmosphere. All over the streets, one begins to see the first hints of Christmas: the coloured lights on the trees and in the shop windows, the handmade decorations of the craftsmen. All around, the white and candid colour of the snow that covers the roofs of the houses and the tops of the mountains, the scent in the air of cinnamon from the traditional marzipan biscuits, the inviting smell of mulled wine and the bright red colour of the crackling fire to warm up from the bitter cold.

Couples, families and even alone, venture out into the town streets to admire the characteristic Christmas stalls.

Local artisans, producers and enthusiasts display their wares: including handmade creations with passion, quality regional products and many local gastronomic specialities.

San Candido is one of the most unique market in South Tyrol, nestled in the Dolomites. At this time of year, it takes on a fairy-tale atmosphere, surrounded by breathtaking panoramas. In the background the sweet melody of bagpipes wafts through the streets.

Unlike previous years, this year the market start earlier; the first opening is scheduled for 24th November. With the beginning of December, every weekend of the month you will have the opportunity to visit the markets at extended hours.

We at the Grey bear await you to experience the Christmas atmosphere in San Candido, all together in our house. We are ready to open the doors of our house wide on 7th December to coincide with the start of the public holiday. Pamper yourself in all the senses: from sight, hearing, taste and touch with our winter proposals.

Days full of activities in the snow, including skiing, hiking and snowshoeing, then return to the hotel and treat yourself to a pampering in our wellness centre. Warming up in front of the crackling fireplace with a hot mulled wine in your hand. Then end the evening by enjoying the excellent gourmet cuisine of our restaurant.
